Changing Default Program for XML files

Some of the exported Excel files on Compensation.blr.com are XML files. If your computer does not automatically open the files in Excel, there are a few options that you can use to open it:

A. Open Excel then simply drag the xml file into the Excel window to open it.

B. Open Excel and click 'File', 'Open', and open the file that way (you may need to change the selection to display all file types.

C. Alternately, you may need to change the default program for handling XML files on your computer. Below are the basic instructions for doing this, though you may want to ask your IT department for help.

1. Click on the start button or the Microsoft icon in the bottom left of your screen and type in the word 'default' in the search area and select "Default Programs":

4. If you see Excel listed in your options, select it. Otherwise click on the 'Browse" button and locate Excel.exe on your computer. For instance:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\Excel.exe

Click OK and close out the open windows. You should now be able to open the xml file by double-clicking on it.
